Background
My journey began with the Dragonfly Dreams series of 4 children's books, all written from the dragonfly's perspective; however, the dragonfly is also a symbol of the Cross of Christ. As is His Way in my life, I only had to crack the door for Him to come in. So in promoting the books, I began working arts festivals and C-Wings began. I added prints, handmade jewelry and handmade Catholic rosaries, all with wings of some sort. My original rosaries had handpainted dragonfly Crucifixes.
I also began painting very primative angels - some folk art style, some cemetery angels. Finally, in 2012, I took my first byzantine icon workshop at St. Joseph Abbey, a Benedictine Abbey in Covington, LA. Though I still make some rosaries and chotkis (eastern prayer beads), I primarily write icons both at home, in a workshop twice a year and now offer instruction, as well.
The most important thing I have learned since being introduced to iconography is that anyone can do this. It is truly an art of prayerful desire. If you are willing to put in the time and open your heart in prayer, you can write an icon.
